The first stage of geological exploration offshore the Bering Sea has been completed.
“Dalmorneftegeophysica” JSC (Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the company is a part of state holding Rosgeologia) performed 2D field works (seismic survey, gravity and magnetics) in the scope of 3000 linear kilometers in the waters of the Bering Sea. The works are performed under the frame of state contract concluded between Rosgeologia and Department on the Development of Mineral Resources Offshore and in World Ocean. The holding has the task to perform complex regional geophysical survey in suture zone of Khatyr and Anadyr basins. The aquatic area under survey covers Anadyr, Khatyr, Karaginsky and Olutorsky Gulfs. The survey area is 406,4 thousand square kilometers.
Marine works were performed in the third quarter of 2016 with the seismic vessel “Orient Explorer”. In addition to 2D seismic survey the geological task involved offshore gravity and hydromagnetics surveys.
This is the first stage of the works. The second stage comprises of forwarding field data to DMNG Processing Center in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk for processing and following interpretation of geophysical data by Geological Department of the company.
In terms of the project the specialists will have to specify geological structure of sedimentary cover and regional structural-tectonic plan of sedimentary basins of the aquatic area, to carry out a complex of field geophysical works, to develop the foundation for interbasin seismo-stratigraphic scheme of Cainozoic sedimentary deposits of the Bering Sea offshore region, to identify and outline areas of prospective oil and gas deposits and to evaluate hydrocarbon resources. The completion of works and presentation of geological report are scheduled for the third quarter of 2017.
